Principal Report
Year 6 Camp
Next Monday until Wednesday our Year 6s will be on their Echuca Camp. I will also be attending this camp and during my absence Wendy Emin will be Acting Principal and Sarah Nobbs will be Acting Assistant Principal (Monday and Tuesday).
Curriculum Day
Next Friday 9th June is a Curriculum Day at our school where all staff will be onsite finalising their report writing. Students are not required at school, however OSHClub will be operating for families who require the service.
Kings Birthday Holiday
Monday 12th June is a public holiday for the King’s Birthday and all students and staff will not be onsite. We remind families to be vigilant over this long weekend period, travel safely and spend some time recharging.
Prep 2024 Parent Information Evening #2
Last night we had our second 2024 Prep Parent Information evening led by our current Prep team. Thank you to all the families who have already enrolled their child in Prep at WNPS for 2024. If you know of anyone who is requiring a prep placement for 2024 and they are yet to enrol please direct them to the school office.
Staff Car Park
The school carpark continues to be used for student drop offs/pick up by parents. We kindly ask families to not use the school car park. There are limited parks for staff and there is a designated drop off zone just outside the school carpark. We also remind families to please use the pedestrian gate next to the staff car park to enter the school rather than crossing through the staff car park before or after school.
Community Understanding and Safety Training (CUST)
Over the past two weeks, staff at WNPS have undertaken professional learning to increase their understanding of Koorie culture, history, and experiences. This training ensures a strong foundation for culturally inclusive schools and practices, which can have a positive impact on Koorie students’ health and wellbeing. CUST aligns with the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes, particularly the state priority of ‘Positive Climate for Learning’.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Next Wednesday, School Council will be presenting the 2022 Annual Report and highlighting major milestones achieved by school council in 2022. The AGM is open to all members of the school community who would like to attend. The AGM will commence at 6.00pm and conclude after approximately 15 minutes. The meeting will be held upstairs prior to our school council meeting. After this meeting the 2022 Annual Report will be published on the school website.
School Grounds person/Gardener Position Available
We currently seek a grounds person to take care of our school buildings and grounds, undertake preventative maintenance, gardening and any repairs as they pop up. The position is for 30 hours per week (can be negotiated). Please contact the school for further details.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Keith and Win, who will both be finishing up at the end of term 2, for the work they have undertaken during their time at WNPS as maintenance and garden persons. Please contact Richard if you are interested in the position.

Lost Dogs Home Help
I have recently become aware that the Lost Dog’s Home is in desperate need of a few supplies for the upcoming winter months.
As you may well be aware, the Lost Dogs’ Home is an institution for those beautiful animals that need a little extra love in their lives. They care for thousands of lost, abandoned or fostered animals yearly and reunite over 90% of our beloved pets back to families when they are lost.
A the moment, there is a need for old blankets and towels to keep all animals warm and dry at the facility. I thought it may be nice to give a shout out to the school community for help in this matter.
I will be collecting old towels and blankets in the Art room for the next week or so in the hope of lending a hand to those who care so much for all our fluffy friends at the Lost Dogs Home.

Oliver who will be representing Victoria as part of the Twins Charter at the 2023 Australian Little League Division II Baseball Championships.
The event will be held at the Blacktown International Sportspark in NSW from Wednesday 7th June – Monday 12th June.

Stay well this winter!
Measures school communities can take to prevent influenza and COVID-19
Symptoms of influenza (flu) can hit very quickly and may last several weeks. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others from getting the flu.
How to reduce the spread of flu and COVID-19
Encourage staff and students to:
¨ wash and sanitise their hands regularly
¨ avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
¨ cover their nose and mouth when they cough or sneeze
¨ use air purifiers
¨ maximise external ventilation
¨ stay home if unwell and consult their GP or Nurse-on-call as required
¨ stay up to date with their flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.
Please make face masks available to staff, students and visitors if they want to wear them.
Flu vaccinations
Annual flu vaccination is recommended from mid-April.
Flu vaccinations can be booked through general practitioners (GP) and pharmacies, many of which can also provide COVID-19 vaccinations. Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and above.
Some people are more at risk of complications from flu and are eligible for free vaccination as part of the National Immunisation Program.
COVID-19 booster
The 2023 COVID-19 booster dose is available for everyone aged 18 and above.
Getting your booster dose remains the best way to prevent severe illness or hospitalization, especially in people aged over 65 and those at higher risk of severe illness.
You can have your booster dose six months after your last dose or COVID infection.
Children aged between 5 and 17 years who are at risk of severe illness can also receive a 2023 booster dose. You can get your next dose at your local pharmacy or GP. To find one near you, refer to the vaccine clinic finder.
You can receive your COVID-19 and flu vaccinations on the same day. School community members can speak with their usual healthcare provider to see if this is right for them.
