Welcome to Week 4

The students continue to settle into school routines and expectations extremely well.

Our Year 4 students and teachers are participating in their Swimming Program at Maribyrnong Aquatic Swim Centre, this week and next week. Fortunately the weather has been favourable.

Feedback

The school has received some lovely feedback from parents and families about having access to the grounds and beginning to reconnect as a school community. Parents are also reminded that in the morning the school grounds are supervised from 8.50am to 9.00am and after school from 3.30pm to 3.40pm. Outside of these supervision times, parents are asked to supervise their child/ren when in the playground. The safety of all students and younger siblings in particular are very important to us.

Lost Property

Lost property continues to accumulate each day and sadly many clothing items, drink bottles, lunch boxes etc are not named. Please ensure your child's full name is clearly written on all items. It is so easy to return lost items if they are named.

Compass Platform

As mentioned in last weeks Newsletter, please use Compass for all communication with the school.

SunSmart

All students are reminded to wear a SunSmart hat during breaks. Whether it is cloudy or lovely sunshine, the UV Rays can be quite damaging and it is important to have our students learning very good habits from an early age. The schools SunSmart policy operates from 1st September through to 30th April each year.

Student Assemblies

This term we will again alternate Junior & Senior assemblies, starting with the Junior assembly next week. Please note, this year assemblies will be held on Friday afternoons at 3.00pm.

School Crossing

A number of parents have reported to the school that there have been a couple of near misses of children while crossing the roads around the school. Please remind students to use the pedestrian crossings when crossing the road, however, even if you have the right of way it is important to still watch for vehicles in case they don’t stop.

Digital Technologies

Our Year Four students have started the year by receiving their own computer as part of the 1-1 program that runs in grades 4-6. As part of their induction, all students will engage in cybersafety education in both their classroom as part of Shared Inquiry and in their STEM classes. Students will be learning about how to keep themselves safe online as well as how we can display our School Values when using technology and the internet.

STEM

We would like to welcome Melissa Lindsay to our school as our junior STEM teacher. Melissa will take STEM classes in Foundation, Year One and Year Two this year and will work closely with Dale Evans to run the STEM program which teaches students vital science, design and digital technology skills.

Canteen Update

Our Canteen has increased the items that are Gluten free. New to the menu is Gluten free Party Pies and Sausage Rolls, Ham & Pineapple Pizza and Gluten free Bread. All of these items can be chosen when placing an order through the Canteen Qkr App.

CSEF Applications

For families with a current Health Care Card, Government funding is available for a Camps/Sports/Excursions subsidy of $125.00 per child. Please complete an application form available from the office. If you have received this payment previously, there is no need to fill in a new form unless you have a child to add who has started school recently. Please send the form into the office with a photocopy of your Health Care Card.

CALLING VOLUNTEERS FOR THE 2023 CLASS REPRESENTATIVE PROGRAM!

Your class needs you! Each class requires two parent volunteers to facilitate The 2023 WNPS Class Representatives Program. This program has three important components:

1. Supporting Education: Class Reps distribute the eNewsletter to give parents the information and tools they need to support and build on what children are learning at school,

2. Social Interaction: Class Reps help to foster relationships between parents by organising social activities for their class; and

3. Supporting Teachers: Class Reps communicate information regarding classroom activities and provide teachers with additional resources and support when required.

Being a Class Rep is a fantastic way to meet other parents and contribute to the life of the school. We welcome expressions of interest in becoming a Class Rep by emailing wnpsclassreps@gmail.com

Call for Volunteers

The Performing Arts department are seeking expressions of interest from parents/carers who may be able to offer a few hours of their time over the next few weeks to assist with the stocktake and digital cataloguing of our costumes, props and musical instruments.

When: Thursdays, 2:30pm-3:30pm, Starting 16/2/23

Where: The Performing Arts room (Room 16)

What: Sorting through boxes and storage to organise, count and take photos of items, create a digital catalogue, and pack into storage.
