Book Week, Book Parade and RWTIM

What a week for Literacy!

We thank all our students, parents and staff for their effort and contribution to the Book Week, parade and for attending Reading, Writing Together is Magic (RWTIM) yesterday.

It was so amazing to see our students enjoy reading, presenting and celebrating literacy in general and sharing and being so proud of their work yesterday evening and throughout the week. What an achievement!

We would like to thank our Literacy Project Team, of Tom Drummond, Kaitlyn Hayes, Tania Brown and Tess Holland for organising the event and week, our staff for supporting and our parents/carers and students for attending and participating. Below are some photos of the night.

Year 6 and Year 3 Camps

We wish our Year 6 and Year 3 students all the very best with their camps next week. This will be the very first camp experience for our Year 3 students.

We thank our lovely dedicated staff for providing these opportunities for our students, as they volunteer their time away from their friends and family. A big thank you to Jamie Peters and Bethany Johnstone for leading these camps with their year level Professional Learning Teams, as well as our parent volunteers for doing the same. These camps cannot run without such support. We look forward to receiving an update with some photos for next weeks Newsletter.

School Works

This past week, if you have visited our Administration Building you would have noticed the internal school works being conducted, with the disabled toilet and external/internal sliding doors being prepared for installation. Soon, some external works will be starting which will impact our Year 1 families and the Melbourne Road entry and exit gate. More details to come to soon.

Gymnastics

Congratulations to Vivienne (5C) and Indiana (2HB) on winning the Interschool Gymnastics Championships held at the State Gymnastics Centre in Windsor, on Wednesday 24th August 2022! They competed on 6 different apparatus and their strength, shape and routines were exceptional.

The girls did a fantastic job in representing Williamstown North PS as a combined team with another four girls from Wembley PS. These 6 girls train together in the ALP level (Australian Levels Program) from 12-16 hours per week and compete at a state level. They wouldn’t have achieved such wonderful results without the support and expertise of their wonderful coach Ciara.

Well done girls, Willy North is very proud of you!

We are so thrilled to announce that we WON! They all performed so well and were fantastic representatives for both schools.

The Age – Schools that Excel Awards

We work closely and are so proud of our neighbouring schools. The Age Schools that Excel Awards were announced recently and we are so happy for Bayside P-12 College that had been judged and awarded as one of the 10 high-gain schools in Victoria winning the award for Western Melbourne.

This is a significant achievement, and it is just wonderful for their community to be recognised like this.

Parent Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting a Parent Opinion survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies .

A random sample of approximately 30 per cent of parents/caregivers/guardians have been selected to participate in this year’s survey. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 15th August to Friday 16th September.

If you receive the link, please complete the survey as we really want to hear our community thoughts on our school and how we can improve it and to celebrate our successes.

Book Fair MONDAY 22nd—TUESDAY 30th AUGUST ONLINE PAYMENT & ORDERING!

The Book Fair closed for student previews on Tuesday 30th August. Using your child’s Wish List, you can make online purchases up until 4:00pm on Friday 2nd September–this is when the portal closes for our school. Full instructions for ordering will be found on the back of the Wish List. Once you’ve paid online, we will receive notification and prepare your order. Books will be delivered to classrooms as soon as we can! Any orders placed after Tuesday may take longer to arrive, as we will have to wait for a rep to deliver these books.

This is a wonderful opportunity to generate excitement about books and reading, as well as being a major fundraiser for our school library. We earn 30% of total sales in books!

We thank you in advance for any purchases made at this year’s Book Fair. Every little sale adds up to making a great contribution to our school library!

Cold Water Immersion Protocol

If you’re wondering what the benefits of cold sea water are – MOWSC can help you discover why seemingly sensible people repeatedly emerge from the winter water laughing so much. Our immersion sessions are friendly, informative, safe and mildly uncomfortable – at first. There is no swimming involved just bring bathers, warm dry kit and a hot thermos.

And hey, it’s your beach. For WNPS parents – we are offering a 100% discount code for immersion bookings. Use code: GLOW on the link
